Allan Slaight Award – Carisa Hendrix

We are thrilled to announce that our special Canadian guest, Carisa Hendrix, has won this year’s Slaight Foundation  ‘Canadian Rising Star Award’.

This award acknowledges outstanding work by an emerging Canadian magician and it comes with an engraved iPad, and a prize of $5,000 from the Slaight Family Foundation. Past recipients of this award include Mahdi Gilbert, Luc Langevin, Eric Leclerc and Nick Wallace. For more information about the awards, visit www.magicana.com/slaight

Since first appearing at the 2017 Melbourne Magic Festival, where Carisa’s now iconic character Lucy Darling was born, Carisa has been on the cover of Vanish Magazine, created the hit podcast Shezam with Kayla Drescher, been nominated Magic Castle Stage Magician of the Year, won the MMF Melbourne International Comedy Festival Award, and now adds this incredible honor to her resume.

Initiated in 2015, the awards are named after Canadian businessman and philanthropist Allan Slaight in honour of his significant contributions to the art of magic. Slaight’s natural talents turned him to broadcasting where he built up the largest, privately-owned network of radio stations in Canada with annual revenues exceeding $500 million, but his passion for magic never waivered. His magic tricks can be found in most major magic magazines from the past fifty years, and his published works—particularly the 3,000 pages of The James File—rank as some of the most impressive magic publications in the history of magic. Now in his eighties, continues to study magic, and co-hosts a conference, 31 Faces North, featuring some of the world’s leading practitioners.

You can catch Carisa Hendrix at The Melbourne Magic Festival in her brand new show Indulgence with Lucy Darling at The Butterfly Club from Monday July 1
