So… did you hear YANNY or LAUREL?
You may be curious to know the real secret behind this worldwide audio phenomenon but, get ready, because like some magic tricks, the solution is disappointingly simple.
Vocal artist, Jay Aubrey Jones, was recording 36,000 words for Vocabulary.com said… LAUREL.
Depending on the device you play it back on, “Yanny” can be heard in higher frequencies while “Laurel” can be heard in lower frequencies. Older people, whose ability to hear higher frequencies is more likely to have degraded, usually hear “Laurel”.
