Em Chandler

Em Chandler (she/they) is a proud queer/trans theatre-maker, magician, and storyteller. With over 16 years of experience working with kids and their adults, Em is passionate about social justice, fairy tales, and connecting with others through imagination, wonder, and play. Em worked with a range of theatre-makers during her Bachelor of Music Theatre, including Sisters Grimm, Anthony Crowley, and Casey Gould. Em has just begun a PhD exploring performance magic, literary theory, and narrative theatre. Em’s play and directorial debut, The Story Keepers, premiered at La Mama in 2022 with a nearly sold-out run, returning for an equally successful run in March this year. She regularly performs at the Melbourne Magic Festival and is currently the festival’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, as well as the Secretary of the Australian Institute of Magic. Her work has been described by the Sydney Morning Herald as “pure enchantment”.
