Lawrence Leung is an award-winning comedian, TV writer, documentary-maker and illusion designer who loves the psychology of deception. In 2015, his debut one-man stage show SUCKER (Best Solo Show, Melbourne Fringe) about con artists and scams was adapted into the Australian feature film SUCKER starring veteran British actor Timothy Spall (from the Harry Potter Films). The film received an AWGIE nomination for best adapted screenplay and won the 2015 Best Narrative Film at St Lawrence Film Festival in USA.
He has also written and performed SCEPTIC, a one man show that explored the supernatural and toured the Melbourne International Comedy Festival, Adelaide and Edinburgh Fringe. This critically-acclaimed live show became the basis for his 6-part ABC1 documentary series UNBELIEVABLE, in which Lawrence travelled the globe encountering ghosthunters, parapsychologists, mentalists, clairvoyants and charlatans.
Lawrence has performed his acclaimed one man shows in festivals and stages around the world including Edinburgh’s Assembly Rooms, London’s Soho Theatre and the Sydney Opera House garnering awards such as The Age Critics Award, and the Sydney Comedy Festival Best Australian Act. He also created the AFI-nominated ABC1 series Choose Your Own Adventure, played the lead in Matchbox/ABC2 series Maximum Choppage and stars as Dr Elvis Kwan in Network 10’s Offspring.
As a magic consultant, he has designed illusory effects and pranks for film, stage and TV.
