1 – Intercessor by Gaetan Bloom Reserve $20

This is a great universal gimmick. One of the most powerful dodges used in card magic has been the torn corner principle. One card is chosen, one corner is torn off, kept by a spectator and the rest of the card is destroyed. The card is then found restored in an impossible location, inside a cigarette, a lemon or a small safe buried under a tree as Robert Houdin used in his time. The card is not only restored but the corner matches, proving that it is the same card. All of these great mysteries work on the same principle, “the corner switch”, the torn corner of the forced selected card being switched for a corner of the duplicate card, already set-up in the final location. From now on, thanks to “The Intecessor” you will be able to achieve all these effects, without switching any corner at any time. More than that, once the card has been selected, the spectator will sign the corner of the card, this corner will be ripped off and given to the spectator. At this moment he will check that the torn corner matches perfectly to the card. Only then the card will be destroyed and found restored where you want, with no false move at any time. You will be able to repeat the effect again immediately if you want.

3 – Foreign Affair by Gregory Wilson

The magician explains how he makes money while traveling the world by taking advantage of currency exchange rates in various countries.

Starting with a one-dollar bill (green), he folds it in half to reveal an Australian note (bright green). Folds it in half again to reveal a twenty-euro note (blue). One more fold reveals a hundred-yen note (red). Finally, when the bill is unfolded, it has now transformed into a one hundred-dollar bill-which can be thoroughly examined.

Thats a lot of bang for your buck, and a geography lesson at the same time!

Buying the 120 page spiral bound book and the 4 audio cassettes that are supplied may be one of the two or three best professional investments you will make as a magician or a mentalist. Although the material would seem to be more in line with what a mentalist would use the fact is that the addition of ‘psychic’, ‘personality analysis’, etc. readings to the programs offered by a magician can be a HUGE money maker. Consider that on average the mentalist can ask for and get MUCH higher fees than most magicians! Why? Is it because what the mentalist offers is so much ‘better’? NO! It is because many times mentalism is simply more interesting to people who would like to believe that ‘maybe’ someone CAN see into the future.

I had a magician friend years ago that made a great deal of money by opening with a 30 minute magic act. He finished with a terrific mental routine and then offered to do ‘readings’ for folks after word. This was of course part of the agreement with the client. He could sometimes pick up as much as $500-1000 extra on the evening in ‘tips’!

This is the 1989 cassette that has since been re-released on CD. It’s a great introduction to the art of cold reading, and very easy to learn and put into action right away.

“I used this as a kid oh so many years ago when I did a candle rotuine in my stage act. Several candles sat in candle holders on various tables. Only one was lit. I would approach the lit candle and reach into the flame and actually carry away the flame! The burning flame on my finger would be used to light the other candles and then returned to its original candle. Very magical indeed!”

These are paper flowers designed to fold to a very small size where they can be produced singley from the hand or as a bunch from a Square Circle or other production item.

8 – Steel Ball Thru Brass Bolt

The STEEL BALL THRU BOLT PENETRATION is great close-up magic that’s insanely easy to do!

You display a solid cube with two holes drilled through the center. You then thread a bolt into the cube, and secure it with the nut. A steel ball is placed in the large hole, on top of the bolt. But it’s path is blocked by the bolt. You concentrate and slowly, the ball passes through the cube….penetrating the bolt!

Everything can be immediately passed out for inspection. Only one ball is used and you can repeat the effect immediately.

Steve Fearson has done it again with a grisly little effect called “Final Cut.” The effect is starkly simple: you take a wicked-looking pocket knife (shown at left) and slice your thumb open. I’ve seen Geno Munari create a sensation with this basic effect, but Geno’s method uses real blood. Fearson’s new take on the effect is truly diabolical, and no one gets hurt. I recall a David Roth lecture where David mentioned, re one of his coin tricks, “If you liked the trick, you’re going to love the method.” That’s how I felt about “Final Cut.”

19 – Ash Felt by Guy Bavli

You talk about the power of the flames and how images can sometimes materialize from the ashes, how the images can become really strong and powerful. Is it our minds? Or maybe our imagination? What is real and what is not?

As you explain, you proceed and hand a spectator a felt tip pen and a piece of tissue paper with the request that he will either write a number upon ti if he is a business type person, or a letter if he is more of romantic. You then ask him to show the audience what he has written. When he has done this, you tell him to crumple the piece of tissue paper and place it in an ashtray. You then hand him a box of matches (or a lighter) and ask him to burn the paper until it turns to nothing but burnt ashes. You then proceed and reach into the ashes. You gather the burnt ashes and slowly sprinkle them up on the back of you hand. As you “Brush off” the ashes, slowly and visible, whatever the spectator wrote appears written in ashes on the back of your hand.

• NO force of any kind is used
• The spectator can write anything on the paper
• NO pre-show work
• NO stooges or confederates.

A quick story: One of our finest close-up artists was at a party doing his award winning sleight of hand. He had just performed a stunning sequence of coin vanishes. When one of our Black Widow testers was invited to perform. He did one of the “beginner” black widow effects on a spectator’s hand. The spectator, in all seriousness, asked if the sleight of hand artist was a “student” of our guy with the Black Widow.

The Black Widow was designed to do one thing very very well. It does this one thing better than any other device or sleight of hand technique currently available.

Now here’s your free Black Widow lesson: what follows is the basic actions for creating a perfect miracle on your spectator’s hand.

Step 1: place the object onto your spectator’s hand.
Step 2: show both of your hands completely empty on both sides. If desired let someone examine your hands.
Step 3: move your empty hands over the spectator’s hand and make a magical gesture.
Step 4: immediately moves your empty hands away from the spectator’s hand to reveal the miracle.

Effect 1: Imagine walking over to anyone anywhere and asking to borrow their empty water bottle. Have them rip the label from the bottle to allow a perfect view. Have them recap the bottle. They place the bottle into your empty hand. Next you borrow a finger ring. In an open view you simply toss the ring through the bottom of the bottle. They see and hear the ring rattling around inside the bottle! You remove the cap and pour the ring out from the mouth of the bottle. Leave everything with them and walk away amongst the accolades of disbelief!

Effect 2: Same scenario as above; a bottle is borrowed. You recap the bottle. Borrow a penny from someone. Place the penny in your open outstretched palm. Take the empty bottle in your other hand. “Watch the penny; watch the bottle.” As you say this, the bottle is slapped upon the penny. Instantly and visibly, the penny is seen to have penetrated the bottle in full view. Leave the bottle with the penny trapped inside with your spectator as a gift. The Magi was here!

Take a moment to reread the above. Nothing has been added or taken away from the descriptions. Both effects are apparently impromptu; the second even more so! Audience reactions are very strong. Magician reactions are just as strong! This is one of those very commercial routines that leave your audience with a long-lasting memory of great magic.
