The first Australian in over ten years to win an award at the FISM world championships of Magic and Illusion, Simon Coronel is one of the most recognised Close-Up Illusionists in Australia today.

In his second appearance at the Melbourne Magic Festival, Simon will give a rare exposition into the art of Sleight-of-Hand manipulation. You will see amazing illusions achieved with just two hands and ten fingers. But in this unusual show…

…you will even discover some of the secrets behind them.

“His seamless blend of supreme illusion and quick witted patter makes this hour fly by, and the only thing I wish is that it was longer.”
-Audience Feedback, Melbourne Magic Festival 2009

Simon Coronel in Manipulations is astonishing. Each tirck Simon performs is extraordinary – the obvious result of many many hours of hard work practising. Manipulations is not just about magic – Simon blends humour, audicne participation and chatting informally to bring the show to life. In the finale, Simon performs to music in what can only be described as both incredible and moving

Simon Coronel began the show by pulling his thumbs apart bringing back fond memories of my late father who used do the same trick for us when we were kids. But then Simon went one better and made the fingers on his left hand disappear. There were card tricks & manipulations with coins & notes. Simon magically turned a five dollar note into a fifty, while pointing out that if he could do this in real life he would be lazing on a beach somewhere with a bag of fives. For the finale Simon made an audience member’s fifty dollar note reappear from inside an orange that had played a role in an earlier trick. Although I’ve seen this trick many times it never ceases to amaze me.

Simon Coronel’s Manipulations was an absolute treat to watch, his talent at Manipulating objects in truly amazing even when he reveals how some of his tricks are done you still cannot believe the talent and practice that goes into each trick. This is the second year in a row i have seen Simon and he was just as good as i remembered. Watch out for my favorite highlight with the Crown Poker Chips, so simple but so amazing at the same time. Simon is not only a magician but is a true craftsmen.

Simon Coronel’s Manipulations was an amazing show which was little card or coin tricks which he makes look impossible, this amazing show is for all ages all the kids would love it, Simon showed the old day magic to the real life magic, how everything has changed and how he can manipulate the outcome. I was one of the lucky people in the audience who went up on stage to be one of Simon’s helpers. Simon made me walk out of the room AMAZED.
Great show, will defiantly be there next year

The wife and I paid 10 times as much to see David Copperfield, but Simon was actually 10 times better.

Copperfield uses fancy props, and some of his tricks are long and drawn out. Simon’s tricks are quick, and are right up in your face, quite literally, as it is a small audience, and that makes the tricks so much more amazing. We were less than 5 metres from Simon, but we just could not figure out where the objects appeared from and disappeared to. To us, that is “real magic”.

Of course, as Simon himself says and the show’s name suggests, it is merely manipulation. But with short sleeves, you will be left in stunned disbelief as to how objects are manipulated. Yes, we know it’s about as real as a $3 bill, but you can’t help but be amazed at the dexterity and skill of the performer.

As my wife and I agreed, Simon is a very good magician, and once he dresses up the show a bit (nice crisp shirt, clean shave etc like Lance Burton, a few more tricks rather than the same ones available on YouTube) then it would not be surprising to see him as a regular performer at Crown Casino. If I were in show business, I would have offered him a contract on the spot.

To Simon: in a big city such as Melbourne, you should get yourself a good manager, do some promotions and marketing, and get yourself a regular gig somewhere nice: there are enough people in this city to have a steady stream of patrons. (For starters, get yourself a Facebook fanpage!!) You really are a great magician with enormous potential, so keep up the good work, keep practicing, get some more tricks, and I hope to see you on the big stage soon.

As usual Simon is charming and brilliant. I’ve seen him perform many times before at Magic Mondays and he is always one of my favourites. As he told the audience during this show, while he doesn’t claim to have any magical ability, it doesn’t stop what he is doing from being amazing. My favourite part was when he brought an audience member up on stage and performed a card trick where everyone but her could see the sleights involved. Some might think of this as revealing magical secrets, but I can assure you, if he then performed any of these sleights again for another trick, you wouldn’t have known. Keep up the awesome work Simon! Can’t wait to see what you do in 2011.

Simon’s performance was that of a flawless professional and his act offered an dimension in theatre that can only grow in the future. It was mesmerising, and what skill! I loved the focus of this art form through those beautiful hand movements.

A fluent mandarin speaking close up illusionist who can hide my precious $50 note (with a picture drawn on it by me with a black marker of course!) inside a juicy orange versus a smiley Japanese close up illusionist who can tell ‘horror stories’ with playing cards that change colour.. Hmm.. Both had me in awe!
